So here are a couple of interesting shots that I took. The first shot of the cats paw taught me patience, especially when photographing animals. They never do what you want when you want so a lot of it comes down to getting lucky. I was hoping the cat would do this very thing earlier and it wasn't cooperating but I just happened to be clicking at the right time later on and captured this shot.

The second shot of the fan shadow was interesting in the fact that the fan was actually spinning while I was taking the photo. I was unable to see the blades with my naked eye but the camera picked them up. I could acutally see them in the lcd screen but I think it had something to do with its' refesh rate.

Patience really does pay off. The picture of the cat's paw looks great and I personally think it's quite a cute picture as well. I find it difficult to not lose detail when photographing white fur, but your image is very clear and detailed.
Your picture of the cat's paw is awesome. I'm amazed how great the contrast is between the two colors of fur and the background. Did you use a large aperture and fast shutter to capture it?
Yeah I had them shutter speed turned up since the cat wouldn't stay still. I believe the aperture was 2.8.
I'm guessing these are both great examples of using a fast shutter speed nice work. Good examples of lighting too - the detail and shadow of the cats paw as well as the shadow of the fan. Did you learn from this where you want your light to be or do you feel it was happenstance?
I had to pay attention to the light to get the shadows right. The instance with the fan was under my control the one with the cat paw was making due with what the cat gave me :).
