Portrait of a sleeping cat

So I admit I cheated just a bit taking a picture of a sleeping individual but some of the concepts are the same. If you were taking a portrait of a person you could tell them to do a certain thing to improve the photo, unless of course you were trying to take a picture of a child. I will compare the cat to a child, were as you can't tell them to do something. You have to make the best of what they give you or trick them into doing what you want. Or in certain circumstances it is just better to take a picture while they are sleeping...that way at least that way they won't move.

Assignment #1 - Adding Text

Here are my two photos that I added text to. In one I added a copyright and the other I just added some text stating the obvious.

Assignment #1 Cloning/Stamping

Here is my before and after picture. The power lines really took away from the picture so I removed them. It worked really well!

Assignment #1 - Week 9 - Filters

The filters turned out to be pretty interesting; here are my two photos:

Assignment #1 - Week 9 - Dodge and Burn

Here is a picture of scowling Jason Varitek. Basically I just tried to remove the shadow caused by the light and his helmet. I managed to lighten up the shadow but had a hard time hiding the line from where the transition had been. The tutorial makes it look much easier than it actually is.

Week 8 - Assignment 1 - Photo Adjustments

Here are a couple of photos that I modified. The first one I selected half the photo and adjusted the lighting and color to see what it would gain me...I have to say it looks quite a bit better. The second one I did the same thing with selecting half of the photo but this time I converted it to black and white. I don't think the conversion really added too much to the shot.

Landscapes

It seemed as though another slideshow would be a good way to show the pictures. I found that it pays to take lots of pictures then view them when you get home and do any cropping that is necessary to make the picture appear as good as possible.

Assignment #1 - Composition and Aesthetics

Here is an interesting article that discusses some relevant points that might not be mentioned in your textbook.

I've been framed...

Sorry about all the pictures of my cat but she is much more interesting than most other things around the house. I have to find a new topic to take pictures of.

Here birdie...

Here are my photos showing the rule of thirds. The first is a rather uninteresting picture of a cat looking out the window. The second picture add a lot more to the story and explains her true intentions...now if she could only figure out how to open the door.

Monochrome color

I caught this reflection off my pool which gives everything the bluish/greenish tint. I need to clean my pool :).

The same picture in three different lights

I believe I got lucky on this one as the day I choose happened to be overcast. This took the sun out of the equation so I believe made the picture taking easier. Had it been a sunny day the noon and evening pictures would have taken more work as I would have had to deal with the sun.

Analogous Color Scheme

Here is my example of an analogous color photo. It has yellow, green and some yellowish-green tones. These were interesting little what looked like mini pine trees, I believe however they were a type of moss. The photo on the right was an interesting farm field.

Macro shots- additional info

So here are a couple of interesting shots that I took. The first shot of the cats paw taught me patience, especially when photographing animals. They never do what you want when you want so a lot of it comes down to getting lucky. I was hoping the cat would do this very thing earlier and it wasn't cooperating but I just happened to be clicking at the right time later on and captured this shot.

The second shot of the fan shadow was interesting in the fact that the fan was actually spinning while I was taking the photo. I was unable to see the blades with my naked eye but the camera picked them up. I could acutally see them in the lcd screen but I think it had something to do with its' refesh rate.

Collage

So here is my collage... enjoy.

Compare and Contrast - Dry Deck

I think this offers up a different type of perspective on things as the pictures are very similar but the conditions under which they were taken completely change how they appear. The first one was a rainy morning which gives the deck an interesting reflective sheen while the second one is just a plain shot of how it normally looks.

I would have to say that I like the added character of the first picture not to mention the fact that you can't tell how bad my deck needs a coating of stain :).
